"Chinese take-out box, fortune cookies, Made in China bar code... These are the first several art projects I did at CMU. Initially, I made these projects aiming to explore structural challenges and different forms of art. However, when I looked back through them, I found it interesting that all of them are pan-Asian subjects. I think these projects are subconscious results of my personal identity. I was born in Guangzhou, China but was adopted and brought up in a white household and community. Despite the fact I am a Chinese American, I barely know about China. Just like all these take-out boxes and fortune cookies that only exist America."
